In Sutton, there is much for us to be proud of both as a council and as a borough. Situated in Zone 5, Sutton is less than 30 minutes by train from central London, and south and south west London are easily accessible by public transport. There are 10 train stations which serve key neighbourhoods within the borough providing direct connections to London Victoria, London Bridge, London Blackfriars and St Pancras International. Sutton also has direct rail connections with Epsom, Dorking, Guildford and Horsham, as well as Wimbledon for an interchange with the London Underground and West Croydon for the London Overground. There’s also an extensive road network which provides close and easy access to the M25 and M23.
About the Role
The role will support the Climate Action and Sustainability team in delivering the waste disposal, textile banks and recycling centre contracts, and performance reporting for the team and the directorate. The postholder will support in delivering a range of projects within the Environment Strategy and Climate Emergency Response Plan.
Key activities include:
- Collecting and analysing information from a variety of sources, preparing reports and analysis to support the delivery of services.
- Preparing monthly performance reports for the directorate management team, and information for committee performance sessions.
- Providing a range of contract and project support for the waste disposal, textile bank and recycling centre contracts, working with contractors and internal and external partners to improve services for our residents.
Sutton has a long-standing commitment to reducing our impact on the environment. We launched our ambitious Environment Strategy in April 2019 which sets out our ambition to be London’s most sustainable borough by 2025. We declared a climate emergency in July 2019 and published our updated Environment Strategy and Climate Emergency Response Plan in October 2020. We are committed to embedding environmental sustainability across our work and organisation, and working with the community, business and partners to reduce their environmental impact as well.

If you’re passionate about the environment and in providing quality performance and data analysis in a challenging yet highly rewarding environment, then we want to hear from you.
You will have experience of working on projects, be able to prioritise your workloads and meet deadlines. You will have demonstrable skills in google and microsoft applications and be able to interrogate data to produce reports, charts, graphs and financial information. You will have good communication skills, both written and verbally, to support the Climate Action and Sustainability teams service operations with residents, members, partners and contractors.
In order to successfully deliver the responsibilities of the role, you will need to demonstrate:
- Experience of and confidence working with complex data sets and spreadsheets (essential).
- Ability to interpret, analyse data from different sources to produce meaningful information (essential).
- High level of IT literacy including Microsoft and Google applications (essential).
- Able to work independently, take initiative and propose ideas for improvement (essential).
- Able to work to deadlines with good time management skills (essential).
- Strong partnership working skills and willingness to work collaboratively (essential).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (essential).
